Stepping up
01 Apr 2018
There's barely a day that 3rd Sergeant (3SG) Angelica Chua is not on the running track or playing a sport.
She hits the gym and runs or cycles a few times a week, and on weekends, she trains with her battalion's dragon boat team. The rest of the time, she's often found on the track doing circuit workouts. All that training has helped 3SG Chua complete two full marathons and seven half-marathons.
Her strength and endurance also served her well during the Basic Warfighter-Platoon Sergeant Course she attended last year. To build up stamina and strength for the Jungle Confidence Course, she had to march for several kilometres and climb up and down the stairs while carrying jerry cans weighing 20kg.
Though it was tough, 3SG Chua considers the experience one of the highlights of her career: "The course was also very fun because I got to know a lot of people from different formations."
Part of her everyday responsibilities is the maintenance of the SAFARI Weapon Locating Radar and the Bronco tracked carrier it's mounted on, making sure they're both in tiptop condition. She and her team also operate the radar during mortar live-firing exercises.
What she enjoys most about her job is connecting and working with different people. "My team is very motivated and we all support and push one another to be better."
