The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) are participating in an annual bilateral mine countermeasure (MCM) exercise, codenamed Exercise Joint MINEX, from 2 to 9 Jul.

It was officially opened at Batam Naval Base by COL Tan Wee Beng, Commander COSCOM, RSN and FADM Budhi Suyitno, Kas ARMABAR, TNI-AL.

Two RSN MCM vessels, RSS Bedok and RSS Kallang, together with a TNI-AL Minehunter, KRI Pulau Rengat, and a TNI-AL Minesweeper, KRI Pulau Rusa, will be operating during the exercise in the seas east of Pulau Bintan, Indonesia and in the Singapore Strait.

These vessels will be conducting joint MCM operations in a simulated transnational terrorist threat scenario.

Exercise Joint MINEX enhances the professionalism and interoperability of the two navies. It also helps to develop ties and mutual understanding between personnel.

This year's exercise marks a decade of cooperation between both the MCM communities of both navies.
