MINDEF, SAF CELEBRATE NATIONAL DAY
08 Aug 2005
About 2,500 personnel from the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) came together to celebrate Singapore's 40th birthday in a National Day observance ceremony at MINDEF on 8 Aug.
Songs and dances followed with performances by artistes from the SAF Music and Drama Company (MDC) and children from the SAF Child Care Development Centre (CDC), who led the audience in a retrospective musical montage and a sing-along of a medley of popular national songs.
Leading the proceedings was Minister for Defence, Mr Teo Chee Hean, who recited the National Pledge and sang the National Anthem together with the personnel.
Also present at the ceremony were Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen; Permanent Secretary (Defence), Mr Chiang Chie Foo; Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Ng Yat Chung; the Service Chiefs, and other senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF.
