Chief of Staff of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, Admiral (ADM) Keiji Akahoshi, called on Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) on 23 Feb.

During his visit from 21 to 24 Feb, ADM Akahoshi called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Chew Men Leong, and visited the Changi Naval Base.

This visit was an affirmation of the warm and friendly defence relations between Singapore and Japan. The two countries signed a Memorandum on Defence Exchanges recently in December 2009. The pact formalised existing defence interactions between MINDEF and the Japan Ministry of Defence and strengthened bilateral defence ties between the two countries. Existing interactions include the exchange of visits by defence officials, policy dialogues, military staff talks and the cross-attendance of courses and seminars.
