CLUBHOUSE FOR SAF OFFICERS RE-OPENS

Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) officers and senior military experts can now head to the new Temasek Club - a one-stop social club - for recreation and interaction.

About four times bigger than the old structure, the new clubhouse at Rifle Range Road boasts an impressive range of sports and recreational amenities.

The top draw is an 38-lane public bowling centre which is the biggest in Singapore. Other sports facilities include a swimming pool, gym as well as futsal and tennis courts.

The club also plans to organise outdoor activities such as running, biking, and hiking at the nature reserve nearby.

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen officiated at the opening ceremony of the new clubhouse on 10 Oct.

Members have given a thumbs up for the new clubhouse. Among them was Major Tan Kian Nam, an Air Force officer who used to work out every week at the old clubhouse's gym.

"It's a huge transformation from the old club. There are better sports facilities, and plenty of activities for the children and families," said the 40-year-old father of two who has visited the new clubhouse thrice.

The new clubhouse also has a childcare centre, children's playroom, and a range of food and beverage outlets.

Established in 1982, the club had relocated from Portsdown Road to its new premises at Rifle Range Road earlier this month.

Designed to serve 4,000, the old facility could no longer meet the needs of the club's now 16,000-strong membership base.

Another reason for the move was to release the land at the Portsdown Road for the national One-North Master Plan Development.

Membership for Temasek Club is automatic for all serving officers. Ex-Regular as well as Operationally-ready National Servicemen officers can also apply to become a member.
