"My home is the clear blue sky."

With that statement, Chinook pilot Captain Gaurav Keerthi summed up his love for flying and impressed the 25 junior college students, who were visiting Paya Lebar Air Base (PLAB) as part of an internship programme to give them a better insight into the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Having visited the Army and Navy earlier in the programme, these students had a chance to fly on board a Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Chinook on the last day of the programme on 29 Nov.

"We actually managed to view the cityscape, the Esplanade, Singapore River and the Merlion from the sky a view not many Singaporeans get to enjoy," said Koo Kai Siong of Hwa Chong Institute (below).

While at PLAB, the students also tried their hand at 'flying' fighter planes in the Flight Simulation Centre.

"We actually managed to view the cityscape, the Esplanade, Singapore River and the Merlion from the sky a view not many Singaporeans get to enjoy," - Koo Kai Siong of Hwa Chong Institute.

One of the female students on this programme, Eileen Yap Shi Yi of Victoria Junior College, was confident that she would be able to match the guys, should she decide to join the armed forces.

"I'm sure the female personnel are able to match the guys in mental strength and emotional maturity. Through training, I might actually achieve things I never thought that I could do," she said.

Summing up for the interns was Victor Philip of Raffles Junior College.

"The SAF will be a fulfilling career," he said.
