Sayang Singapore celebrates the nation's 41st birthday with a showcase of engaging tales devoted to Singapore, told live by the country's best narrators.

Organised by the National Book Development Council of Singapore, this three-day event promises to warm the heart with stories nodding to Singapore's past and reflecting on the future, accompanied by the gentle chords of the gamelan.

It also forms part of the programme preceding the first Singapore International Storytelling Festival, which begins in late August.

The roster of storytellers on show includes Kiran Shah and Sheila Wee of the Asian Storytelling Network, Singapore's first professional storytelling group, as well as British-born drama teacher Roger Jenkins.

Sayang Singapore will be held from 11 to 13 Aug at the Gallery Theatre of the National Museum of Singapore.

Tickets are available from the National Book Development Council of Singapore. Matinees start at 3pm and evening shows at 7.30pm on all days. There is no matinee on 12 Aug.

Tickets are priced at $12 (matinee) and $15 (evening show) each. MINDEF/SAF personnel and their families enjoy 20% off the usual price at $10 (matinee) and $12 (evening show) each.
