The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) detachment at Mountain Home Air Force Base (MHAFB) in Idaho, United States, received its first batch of four F-15SG multi-role fighter aircraft on 7 May.

This marked the beginning of the RSAF's F-15 training at MHAFB. RSAF pilots had previously been undergoing F-15 training with their United States Air Force (USAF) counterparts at the Seymour Johnson Air Force base in North Carolina.

The most advanced variant of the F-15 line of aircraft produced to date, the F-15SG boasts state-of-the-art avionics and a sophisticated integrated sensor suite to boot. In addition, its ability to carry large amounts of weapons as well as fuel gives the fighter aircraft greater firepower and combat endurance.

MHAFB was selected to house the RSAF training squadron because of its extensive range complex, excellent year-round flying conditions and facilities, and highly trained personnel.

Welcoming the arrival of the F-15SGs to MHAFB, the USAF's 366th Ops Group Commander, Colonel James McGovern, called it "an auspicious and historical moment that continues (the) long relationship" between Singapore and the US.
