Former Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Dr Anthony Tether was conferred the Singapore Defence Technology Distinguished Fellowship by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) on 17 Sep.

Dr Tether was being recognised for his significant efforts in enhancing the defence technology cooperation and strong defence ties between the United States (US) and Singapore.

As DARPA Director from June 2001 to February 2009, he played an instrumental role in developing the defence technology partnership between DARPA and MINDEF. He established a bilateral forum for the two to share ideas on key technology developments, research and development plans, as well as other related issues of interest. Such interactions have resulted in several joint projects which have benefited Singapore and the US significantly.

The Singapore Defence Technology Distinguished Fellowship was established in 1996 to recognise individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of Singapore's defence technology capabilities.
