PAVING THE WAY FOR A CAREER AFTER SAF

The Army and its defence industry partners (DIP) - Singapore Technologies (ST) Kinetics and ST Logistics - signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 17 Mar which will introduce an Army Logistics-DIP Career Transition Scheme (CTS) for all army servicemen.

Under the scheme, all Warrant Officers and Specialists can pursue a career with ST Kinetics and ST Logistics, and receive a comparable income to their last-drawn salary.

This scheme will also benefit the DIP because the defence industry will be able to leverage on the experiences and skills of army servicemen to aid in their growth and expansion.

Talking about the significance of the CTS, Assistant Chief of General Staff (Logistics) Colonel (COL) Ngien Hoon Ping said: It means that our people are now recognised for their work and experience in the SAF, and this translates into relevant experience for the defence industry.

Technical servicemen who are leaving the Army after their term-of-engagement are eligible for the CTS.

Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Chellaiah, Formation Sergeant-Major of Headquarters Supply & Transport, was hopeful that this CTS would be of much benefit to his men after they leave the Army.

It s a milestone for our men as they are able to transit, with minimum disruption, to their second careers, said MWO Chellaiah.

He added that the wealth of knowledge, experiences and the strong desire for continuous learning were some plus-points that his men could bring with them when they crossed over to the defence industry.

As for MWO Chellaiah himself, he would consider the CTS as well.

Certainly I would, when the time comes, he said. I would definitely want to consider because I can add value to society.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Army and ST Kinetics and ST Logistics will allow for a smoother career transition for army personnel into the defence industry.
