INDONESIAN DEFENCE CHIEF GETS TOP MEDAL

Commander-in-Chief of the Indonesian National Defence Forces Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Djoko Suyanto received Singapore's highest military award from President S R Nathan on 23 Nov at the Istana.

The Distinguished Service Order (Military) was awarded to ACM Suyanto for his significant contributions towards enhancing the strong and longstanding ties between the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) and the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).

Under his leadership and guidance, professional interactions between both armed forces have grown in scope and depth.

The TNI and the SAF engage each other in a wide range of bilateral exercises and professional exchanges, which serve to enhance mutual understanding and camaraderie.

Before the investiture, ACM Suyanto called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He also met Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean and Chief of Defence Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek.
