Early in the morning of Friday, 7 Dec, over a hundred servicemen and women from Gombak Base gathered at Mandai Hill Camp.

They were there to participate in this year s Gombak Cross-Country Run.

Aimed at inculcating a spirit of healthy competition amongst participants, the run comprised three segments: a competitive group and individual run of 4.5km, as well as a 3km fun run.

With a runner turnout comprising personnel of all ranks and ages, the atmosphere was almost carnival-like.

Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General (LG) Desmond Kuek joined the runners for the course.

Speaking to cyberpioneer, CPT Kenneth Kuo found the course a considerable challenge. He said: "It was quite tough to run, with the path going up and down, and especially challenging with the rain."

Despite this being CPT Kuo's first attempt at the Gombak Cross-Country Run and the tough terrain, the Senior Analyst powered through to clinch victory as Champion in the Category Y for personnel from 25 to 29 years of age.

Captain (CPT) Angie Ng was exhilarated at completing the race well.

For the Project Officer with the Army who turned 37 that day, her team coming in first in the competitive run was a very special birthday present.

The cross-country run brought together SAF personnel from various units in Gombak Base.
