Mixed teams from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) came together to take part in a series of adventure races from 2 to 9 Sep.

Held in Singapore, this Joint Adventure Training was conducted as part of Exercise Semangat Bersatu.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Commando Officer Colonel (COL) Lam Shiu Tong said that this would allow participants to experience "some of the popular sporting adventures in Singapore".

"It is also an opportunity for us to work together to overcome challenging tasks," he added.

The adventure race consisted of activities like dragon boating, mountain biking, trekking, rock wall climbing and rappelling - a concept similar to the popular Action Asia Challenge.

Participants from the two armies formed two mixed teams, which were led by the SAF's Captain (CPT) Alvin Tjioe and the MAF's Major Alfarizan.

"It is really encouraging to see both teams working together to accomplish something as tough and trying as the adventure training," said CPT Tjioe.

"I think every participant displayed true fighting spirit that is the mark of a soldier."

Commander 6th Singapore Division COL Lim Teck Yin, who officiated at the closing ceremony, said: "The success of this adventure training is a reflection of the history of both countries with strong close ties and shared values.

"It is also a reflection of our close defence cooperation and working relationship, which is needed to enhance the security of our two nations."
