Donning the "Smart Four" with pride
12 Jul 2017
Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) Senior Manager Gary Kam (middle) chooses to don his "Smart Four" to work on Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Day for a few reasons. One of them is to show off to the ladies, he says jokingly.
"That aside, it's essentially to remind everyone that the colleague next to them is someone who will fight for the country during times of war," added 3rd Sergeant (3SG) (NS) Kam.
In fact, the 34-year-old wore his uniform every year, including this year, since the company started encouraging its employees to do so in 2014. He said: "Some friends and even guests will ask to take a photo with me it's a reminder that every one of us plays a part in national defence."
This year, RWS also showed its appreciation for national servicemen in other ways such as offering special promotions for various attractions and having some RWS front-line staff wear NS50 badges for the month of July until National Day on 9 Aug.
"It's important to appreciate our national servicemen and I feel quite proud that my company is showing support," said Attractions Training and Development, Training Coordinator Lim Si Hao, 24.
His colleague, Attractions Park Services, Area Manager Muhammad Shahdan Bin Said, 35, agreed that it was awesome to be a part of RWS' support towards SAF Day. He said: "It's a positive gesture to show that citizens are appreciating them for sacrificing their time to be in the force.
"When we see someone in green, automatically they're like our brothers in arms."
