Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean is in India on a four-day official visit.

During his visit, he is scheduled to call on his Indian counterpart A K Antony, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Home Affairs Minister Shivraj Patil, and the three service chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces.

This is Mr Teo's third visit to India as Minister for Defence.

Since the minister's introductory visit in 2003, during which Singapore and India signed the Defence Co-operation Agreement, bilateral interactions between the two armed forces have grown in scope and depth.

These interactions include joint exercises, service-level staff talks and cross-attendance of courses.

Policy dialogues between the two defence establishments and exchanges in defence technology have also taken place regularly.

While in India, Mr Teo will observe a joint artillery exercise conducted by the Singapore and Indian armies.

Mr Teo's visit comes soon after Permanent Secretary (Defence) Chiang Chie Foo s visit to India to co-chair the fourth Defence Policy Dialogue.

The two visits reflect the warm and deepening defence ties between Singapore and India.
