The Army Open House (AOH) 2007, held from 30 Aug to 3 Sep, received rave reviews from visitors.

As part of the AOH, several groups of visitors, such as the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence (ACCORD), were there to view exhibits and participate in a multitude of activities.

Organised to enhance the public's confidence in the Army, these visits were attended by several Members of Parliament as well as grassroots leaders and employers.

One of them, Ms Magdelene Lau Siah Ing, Regional Director of The Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd, felt that the AOH was an eye-opening experience.

"It has given us a very clear understanding that, as employers, when our employees go for In-Camp Training, they are not going for a holiday," she said.

"The Army thinks about the employers a lot, making sure that they shorten the training so that the employees can go back to work as soon as possible."

Ms Lau was not the only one who enjoyed herself at the AOH.

"The most exciting part was the ride in the BIONIX and watching the live-firing," said Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC Ms Indranee Rajah.

She was also impressed by "the degree of coordination, teamwork and the overall cooperation that it took to achieve such results".

In a way, the AOH encapsulates the essence of the Army: regardless of its technological advancement, it is the ever-present seamless coordination between every single soldier that drives it.

Mr Richard Yee, Managing Partner of Everbright International Company, was awestruck by his experience.

"Very wonderful, very meaningful," he said, having just viewed the thrilling Urban Operations demonstration. "This is indeed very well-planned and well-executed."
